Contemporary
Galatia’s influence in contemporary dance comes from the legend himself – Ross Mckim who was her artistic director at the Rambert. It combines Graham, Cunningham, and release techniques with storytelling, and technical ability.
Contemporary dance is a versatile and expressive dance form that emerged in the mid-20th century, drawing on elements of modern dance, ballet, and other dance genres. It emphasizes the use of natural movement and the dancer's own interpretation, allowing for a broad range of expression and creativity.
Contemporary dance favors fluidity, improvisation, and a connection to the emotional and physical experiences of the dancers. It can incorporate a variety of styles and influences, creating a dynamic and ever-evolving art form.
Contemporary dance often explores complex themes and narratives, making it a powerful medium for storytelling and artistic exploration.
At Dance Flow, you can find 3 levels of Contemporary classes – beginner, Intermediate, and advanced level. Students ages 11+ are accepted.
Neoclassical
Rarely ever seen in Cyprus, Dance Flow Studios is proud to introduce neoclassical dance in its teaching schedule!
Neoclassical dance is a ballet style that emerged in the early 20th century, characterized by a departure from the strict formalism and ornate storytelling of classical ballet. Pioneered by choreographers like George Balanchine, neoclassical dance emphasizes abstract, often minimalist movement, focusing on the purity of form and the technical prowess of the dancers.
This style integrates classical ballet techniques with contemporary themes, allowing the dancers' movements to take center stage.
The result is a dynamic and expressive form of dance that bridges the gap between the traditional and the modern, maintaining the discipline of classical ballet while embracing innovation and new artistic ideas.
Commercial and Modern Dance
Starting off with modern dance in the early years and moving on to commercial in the teenage years – this type of dance is designed to be fun, and an excellent workout!
Commercial dance is a vibrant and diverse style commonly seen in music videos, concerts, and television shows. It encompasses various dance genres such as hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary, often choreographed to complement popular music and entertain broad audiences.
Known for its flashy, high-energy movements and emphasis on performance and personality, commercial dance aims to captivate and engage viewers. This style thrives in the entertainment industry, reflecting current trends and often prioritizing visual impact and marketability.
